White Sheep and Black Sheep
Switzerland is famous for its democracy. Nowhere else on this planet the population is solicited so often to pronounce itself on issues that concern the community: the funding of infrastructure projects, tax and welfare issues, but also foreign policy questions, such as should the country be a member of the UN and the EU? When I look out of my window at work I can see the posters and slogans. I would like to share the one which caught my eyes:
What I am showing is a xenophobic poster which calls for the expulsion of "criminal foreigners": Law abiding white sheep from Switzerland kick-out a black one. Someone wrote "HONTE" on this blatantly xenophobic and racist campagne poster. It is this one single word "Shame" that gives hope.

There is evidence on Swiss internet sites that the SVP/UDC propaganda has triggered creativity rather than uproar. It is just too bad that we
can't see these "modified" posters in the streets.

L’UDC, grâce à un généreux sponsor, a fait parvenir dans toutes les boîtes aux lettres de Suisse un formulaire pour signer son initiative contre les étrangers délinquants.
Ne jetez pas le formulaire : renvoyez-le dans une boîte à lettres de La Poste!Comme il est en catégorie “envoi commercial, port payé par le destinataire”, chaque formulaire renvoyé coûte à l’UDC et diminue son budget de campagne.Si toutes celles et tous ceux qui l’ont reçu faisaient de même, l’UDC en serait pour une facture de près de CHF 4’000’000.— !
Renvoyez le formulaire vide de signature. Y’a de quoi leur pourrir un peu le travail...

Doudou Diène tance les affiches UDC
Le Conseil fédéral a approuvé la réponse à la lettre que Doudou Diène, rapporteur spécial de l'ONU sur le racisme et Jorge A. Bustamente, rapporteur spécial sur les droits des migrants, avaient adressée au Gouvernement suisse
Dans sa réponse, le Conseil xfédéral relève que, dans une société démocratique, la liberté d'expression doit être protégée, en particulier dans le débat politique. 
Par ailleurs, il réaffirme sa ferme volonté de ne tolérer aucune forme de racisme en Suisse mais fait remarquer que c'est à la justice qu'il appartient de juger si des déclarations faites publiquement tombent sous le coup de la norme pénale contre le racisme.
Dans une lettre adressée au collège gouvernemental, les deux rapporteurs spéciaux de l'ONU avaient fait part de leur inquiétude au sujet de la campagne et des affiches de l'UDC en faveur de l'initiative pour le renvoi des étrangers criminels.

Xenophobia and racism can be so funny! If it needed another proof, the UDC party put it on the net: With "Zottel rettet die schweiz / Zottel en course pour la Suisse" we have now the ultimate entertainment: the kicking sheep preventing abusive naturalizations and that criminel foreigners to enter Switzerland.

Preliminary end of the Sheep Story
Summer time is over. Automn started. The Swiss elections are also behind us. The far right advanced as never before. The campaign posters are gone. But the memory of this season of sheep will stay with us.

My entry is about people who feel ashamed by this type of campaigning and who have probably violated the law by "damaging" the poster. I am rendering hommage to the unsong heroes of the every day struggle for tolerance and civility.
